Derek Bermel: A Shout, A Whisper, and a TraceLalo: Symphonie EspagnolBeethoven: Symphony No. 3 "Eroica"
Janet Sung’s first appearance with the TSO was in November 2010 when she performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Called “one of the outstanding young violinists of her generation” by the great Dorothy Delay, Sung was a protégé of the legendary teacher and performer Josef Gingold. She holds the post of associate professor of music at DePaul University in Chicago and is equally adept as a performer and teacher. Janet Sung is very dedicated to education and working with young people. During her last visit to Tacoma, she showed up at a Tacoma Youth Symphony Association rehearsal and spent 15 or 20 minutes playing and talking to the young musicians.
Symphonie Espagnol, as its name implies, is full of Spanish themes and flavor. Written as a symphony, it is regarded by most violinists today as one of the great concertos for the instrument.
