Described
as “thrilling, exquisite, with gorgeous top notes,” coloratura soprano Diane
Penning stars in a program of favorite songs from great Hollywood films –
including Mary Poppins, Phantom of the
Opera, Papa’s Delicate Condition, West Side Story, The King and I, Porgy and
Bess, Victor Herbert’s Enchantress
and more! This will be a night to revel
in romance and nostalgia with a charming and gracious performer.
"For me, performing is both an artistic and a spiritual experience," says Ms. Penning. "It
is deeply meaningful for me to create an experience for the audience
that draws them into the artistry of the music. I also value creating a
variety of moods in my performances."
The program features a "Poppins Fantasy," an 11-minute medley of tunes from this beloved favorite made so memorable by Julie Andrews. Other highlights include "Somewhere" from West Side Story; "Summertime" from Gershwin's Porgy & Bess; "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera; and "Call Me Irresponsible" from Papa's Delicate Condition.
